A Word from the Youth Pastor:

Hello everyone! Did everyone notice that this past Sunday (May 22) was "Peace with Justice Sunday?" Personally, I have some mixed feelings about picking out one day to talk about Peace and Justice. I mean, Christianity is a religion of peace and justice! Consider James 1:27 for instance: "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world." There you have it….caring for orphans and widows IS pure religion. How many times in the Old Testament did God say that sacrifices meant nothing and that he only wanted his people to treat each other equitably?!

However, I also realize that this special Sunday is important to get the Church back on track. See, the Church in America is falling, and has been doing so for a long time. The capitalist ideals of rugged individualism and personal responsibility have robbed many in the Church of their compassion for others. We are told that we must earn our way in life, that everyone needs to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and make a life for themselves. Under this concept, poverty and oppression becomes a matter of personal responsibility. However, the Church is called to realize that many times poverty is not the fault of the poor, but the fault of the rich who exploit them. As Christians we are first called to have compassion for the poor, not contempt for their lack of work ethic. Thanks guys and keep the Faith.
